It is commonly used in diseases affecting spleen. It has digestive properties, relieves ache due to flatulence and has cathartic effect on bile. It is also used in liver ailments and piles. It acts as cough expectorant. It is found to be effective in treatment of chronic fevers with liver and spleen involvement. Root is used for external application in skin diseases, inflammation and dental problems.
